Soo Young Bae, Ph.D.
I am an Associate Professor of Communication at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where I am also a core faculty at the Data Analytics and Computational Social Science (DACSS) graduate program, and a faculty associate at the Computational Social Science Institute (CSSI).
My research focuses on the social and political impact of new communication technologies, with a particular interest in the dynamics of user interaction and information flow in social media platforms. I explore how the flow of news and information becomes increasingly ingrained in existing social relationships, and how it shapes our attitudes, behaviors, and relation to one another.
Beyond examining the flow of information in digital media, I also study the broader societal implications of communication technologies. My work addresses the ways in which different demographic groups engage with digital media platforms, with a particular focus on older adults.
I received my Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and B.A. (Journalism & Mass Communication) and B.B.A. (Business Administration) from Korea University.
